Abstract

An important aspect of the pedagogical interaction of coaches and athletes during the competition-targeted training is recognition of the athletes’ gender identity. In order to determine the components most sensitive to pedagogical influence in the personality structure of gender-differentiated athletes playing various sports, the correlation analysis of the parameters under study was conducted: gender identity index (Bem Sex Role Inventory) and personality characteristics (R. Cattell’s 16PF questionnaire). The experiment involved 860 athletes representing different sports that were classified on the basis of the rivals’ competitive interaction: autonomous, antagonistic and synergistic. The data obtained indicate a more productive impact on the personality sphere components of the masculine persons than the feminine ones, women than men, men playing antagonistic and women playing synergistic sports than women playing antagonistic sports, and men playing synergistic and autonomous sports.
