Abstract

Triangle tanner crab abundance is estimated on the data of trap survey conducted in the period of the crab commercial fishery on the continental slope at eastern Sakhalin. Possibility is testified to assess its commercial stock i.e. the stock of males after final (terminal) moult reached their morphometric maturity which could be actually used for production output. The data collection and processing are improved, the method of estimating the share of well-conditioned males is developed, seasonal and long-term dynamics of the commercial stock are described, and the possible catch is evaluated taking into account patterns of the crab allometric growth. Proposed procedure of the catch evaluation includes some untraditional methods of data interpretation based on contemporary knowledge on growth of snow crabs. Recommendations on the crab fishing intensity are given.
