With the national economy switching to innovation-oriented growth drivers, research, development, and production companies are taking centre stage as a pivotal element of the national innovative system. Such companies integrate the processes of development, commercialization and use of intellectual properties. The paper reviews issues involved in the organization of high-performance activities of research, development, and production companies, including funding of their innovative activities, and presents methodologies for appraising the intellectual properties developed by research, development, and production companies.

В настоящее время российская экономика переходит от сырьевой к инновационной стратегии развития. Экономический рост в России составляет почти 7% в год, что превышает среднемировой уровень. Однако, к сожалению, темпы роста промышленности снизились с 4% в 2005 г. до 3,9% в 2006 г. Конкурентоспособность российской экономики остается низкой. Так, по оценке Всемирного экономического форума, по рейтингу конкурентоспособности в 2004 г. Россия занимала 70-е место среди 102 стран. С тех пор этот рейтинг практически не изменился.
