The article is devoted to the analysis of old words which are considered to be a linguistic element in the system of ethno-cultural approach of teaching Russian. The present article names the main causes of archaization as well as it explains the contents of such notions as "old words", "historisms", "archaisms". There is a classification of thematic groups of 'old words' which are accompanied with the examples taken from I.S. Turgenev's novel "Fathers and Sons". The materials presented in the article may be used at the lessons of Russian at school while studying the topic "Old Words", as well as while commenting on the usage of old words observed in the texts of the Russian literature.

В статье раскрывается содержание понятий «устаревшие слова», «историзмы», «архаизмы». Представлена классификация тематических групп устаревшей лексики с иллюстрациями из романа И.С. Тургенева «Отцы и дети». Материалы могут быть использованы на уроках русского языка в школе при изучении темы «Устаревшие слова», а также при комментировании устаревшей лексики текстов художественной литературы.
