Reducing of the rate of the world economy growth in the period 2007-2008 had clearly reflected on the working of the world forest sector. Along with the new macroeconomic conditions, the emergence of new trends and markets associated with the development of the information technology and using of the renewable energy sources had an impact on the composition and structure of the forest products markets, and, consequently, the production structure of the world forest sector. Set of these factors, as well as the changes of the forest legislation in Russia the largest supplier of commercial timber on the world forest markets and our country's joining to the WTO, has determined the structural transformation and prospects of development of the logging industry. In the logging sector the power of the new leaders in the production of commercial timber has significantly increased, in particular, Brazil and China, as well as a number of other countries of Southeast Asia, which actively implementing and using the technology of plantation forests. Influence of the USA, Canada and Western Europe has slightly decreased. In Russia the volume of harvesting of the commercial timber has decreased most significantly, although our country still remains the leading exporter of these goods to the world forest markets and determines pricing in the industry. In general, today there is a situation of saturation on the commercial timber market and in the medium term a slow growth with increasing competition between suppliers of raw wood can be forecasted in the world logging sector.

Снижение темпов роста мировой экономики в период 2007-2008 годов отчетливо отразилось на показателях развития лесного сектора мира. Наряду с новыми макроэкономическими условиями, появление новых тенденций и рынков, связанных с развитием информационных технологий и использованием возобновляемых источников энергии, оказало влияние на состав и структуру рынков лесных товаров, и, соответственно, производственную структуру лесного сектора мира. Совокупность данных факторов, а также изменение лесного законодательства в России крупнейшем поставщике деловой древесины на мировые рынки и вступление нашей страны в ВТО, определили структурные трансформации в развитии лесозаготовительной отрасли. В лесозаготовительном секторе существенно возросло влияние новых лидеров в производстве деловой древесины, в частности, Бразилии и Китая, а также ряда других стран Юго-Восточной Азии, активно внедряющих и использующих технологии плантационного выращивания лесов. Немного снизилось влияние США, Канады и стран Западной Европы. В России объемы заготовки деловой древесины сократились наиболее существенно, хотя наша страна, по-прежнему, остается лидером по экспорту данного товара на мировые рынки и определяет ценовую политику в отрасли. В целом на рынке деловой древесины сегодня наблюдается ситуация насыщения и в среднесрочном периоде в лесозаготовительном секторе прогнозируется медленный рост с обострением конкурентной борьбы между поставщиками древесного сырья.
