Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of the representation of Islam in the public sphere of the Republic of Tajikistan. Tajikistan is the only republic in post-Soviet Central Asia where one can find the unique experience of co-existence of secular state, two Islamic confessions (Sunnism-Hanafism and Ismailism), and a religious party. The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is functioning legally after the end of inter-Tajik conflict of 1992-1997. The author examines the arrangement of a Muslim community, new models and forms of socialization and representation of its actors. A special attention is given to a new phenomenon the Muslim women, who are activists of the Islamic party and Ismaili community.
