Abstract

In the course of studies conducted for stock abundance and catch dynamics on the base of fishery and biological data and results of stock abundance assessment over four groups of Pacific cod from the northern and south-western Bering Sea, Pacific Ocean waters adjacent East Kamchatka and off the west coast of Kamchatka some periodicity has been revealed. It has been demonstrated that the fish from the areas mentioned demonstrated severalperiods of sharply increasing biomass, including early 1970s, mid 1980s and early (mid) 1990s. In late 2000s Pacific cod biomass also demonstrated the trend to growth in general. It has been suggested that the character of the Pacific cod stock abundance dynamics is determined by climate changes. For all stocks the years of emerging abundant generations were the years of warming. With that, a baselessly high catch of cod in the period of mediate or poor stock abundance can also play produce significant negative effects on the Pacific cod biomass formation.
