Abstract

We consider sustainable development as a process to reach balanced solutions for a higher education institution, the society, and the natural environment. In this framework, we propose to use a hierarchy of models that describe the relationships among various components within the educational institution and the society outside of it. We analyze and discuss an application of such a simulation technology for the analysis and planning of sustainable development in the case of a new innovative college in the state of Georgia, USA. The proposed simulation technology includes a monitoring system, simulation models, decision support system, as well as a simulation management team. Implementation of such a simulation technology will provide information support with identifying, evaluating, and applying the strategy of sustainable development for the day-to-day life of an innovative institution of higher education.
