Abstract

The author proves that the character of professional situations, in which foreign language teachers communicate with their colleagues and students, determines the basic and specific language teacher training and a close relationship between the linguistic and pedagogical aspects of professional training. A critical overview of some traditional means of language teacher training is followed by the discussion of some new trends in professional training and development which can enable both the teachers and their students to take part in intercultural communication effectively.
