Abstract

The experience of work at the faculty of foreign languages shows that the need for teaching critical thinking skills to students is a modern goal, because it is obvious that today students do not use critical and creative approach to the solution of problems on all education levels. For the solution of such problems it is necessary to work out such tasks for every lesson which would provoke students to think logically, to analyze the material they read, to compare it with alternatives, to call ideas into question and to evaluate information. In its turn planning of such lessons reguires great efforts from the teacher, as it is much simpler to give students only facts for storing and then check their memory by means of traditional tests. In this article the author focuses the readers’ attention on the development of critical reading of English literature in the original; she also emphasizes the mental humanistic mission of learning foreign languages and the significant role of the latters in forming a creative image of systemic thinking students should be imbued with.
