Abstract

La resiliencia cerebral es la capacidad del cerebro para resistir los efectos de la enfermedad y el envejecimiento, preservando o manteniendo la cognición y la capacidad funcional para las actividades de la vida diaria. Se trata de una habilidad dinámica y flexible, que se modula a lo largo del tiempo puesto que en el transcurso de la vida el cerebro y sus funciones no permanecen estáticos. La naturaleza, el alcance y las tasas de cambio varían según la región y están influidos tanto por factores genéticos y ambientales, como por influencias fisiológicas, así como por procesos patológicos relacionados con enfermedades. A partir del concepto de resiliencia cerebral se describen cuáles son los componentes de la resiliencia cognitiva, qué factores la fomentan, qué factores la limitan, cuáles son las bases neurobiológicas de la resiliencia cognitiva, qué papel juega la plasticidad sináptica y, finalmente, los factores genéticos asociados a la resiliencia cognitiva.
