
The article approaches at critical review of liberal democracy idea in regard to findings of communitarian thought. Its representatives perceive liberal democracy through the lens of philosophical assumptions, while particular mechanisms and democratic institutions play secondary role. Hereby text is an attempt of pointing out the ideas, which according to communitarians lie at the base of liberal democracy project and are responsible for functional anomalies of particular institutions and procedures. The thesis is founded on assumption that problem of low level of civil participation in contemporary liberal democracies has its roots in liberal concepts of individual, freedom and society understood as creation of social contract.
