A person’s attitude to himself/herself affects his/her self-esteem, self-acceptance and self-realization. The perception of one’s own body can be considered as one of the manifestations of self-attitude. This study examines the relationship of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the body, attitude to its individual parts and features with self-attitude (self-esteem, autosympathy, self-deprecation). The sample consisted of 174 students of the Ural Federal University, 21 of them were boys and 153 girls. The following methods were used in the empirical study: the method of associative experiment A. V. Svetikova and Z. V. Borisenko; methodology “Self-assessment of the external appearance” by V. A. Labunskaya; methodology for the study of self-attitude to the image of the physical “I” by A. G. Cherkashina; methodology for the study of self-attitude by S. R. Pantileev. Descriptive constructs of the body image were investigated. Most students have positive ideas about their own body. It was found that girls have higher results in self-guidance and self-worth. A correlation study showed that body satisfaction is associated with self-esteem and autosympathy, and dissatisfaction with self-deprecation. The further prospects of the study include the investigation of behavioral strategies that contribute to the formation of a positive body image.
