The problems of lifelong learning are of current interest all over the world and in our country due to the development of the educational system modernization processes. In accordance with the demands of the developing society to teachers the system of continuing pedagogical education is now being built. Continuing pedagogical education as a lifelong process plays an important role in a teacher’s professional development. The realization of this process is backed up by a certain system. From this point of view, the analysis of the continuing pedagogical education system is coming to current importance. The aim of this study is to analyze the structure and functions of a continuing pedagogical education system. The author makes the literature analysis and synthesizes philosophical and pedagogical regulations for the determination of the essence of the system in view. The structure and functions of lifelong pedagogical education in its status and personal aspects were revealed. The author's view on the possibilities of the teacher’s progress during continuing pedagogical education through the integration of formal, nonformal and informal education is presented. The results of the study can be used in the practice of the realization of teachers’ educational programs of different levels.
