Perceptions et attitudes des infirmier(e)s en matière de vie affective et sexuelle des patients cancéreux

Abstract

Resume Introduction Malgre la frequence des problemes sexuels rencontres en cas de cancer, la majorite des infirmieres n’en parle generalement pas avec les patients. L’objectif de cette etude est d’essayer de comprendre comment mieux contribuer a l’amelioration de l’evaluation du bien-etre des patients cancereux dans le cadre de leur sante sexuelle. Methode Etude qualitative sur base d’entretiens individuels de vingt infirmieres qui travaillent dans les services d’oncologie et d’hematologie de quatre hopitaux belges. Les entretiens semi-directifs ont ete retranscrits et nous avons effectue une analyse de contenu des donnees recoltees. Resultats La sexualite reste un sujet tabou. Les dysfonctionnements sexuels sont sous-evalues. Les infirmieres manquent de connaissances. Les obstacles a l’abord et l’evaluation de la sante sexuelle sont nombreux. Les freins rencontres sont causes par des facteurs intrinseques et/ou extrinseques : prejuges, embarras, manque d’outils d’evaluation, manque de soutien, de ressources, un environnement pas toujours adequat, le manque de connaissances. Il y a aussi une meconnaissance des effets secondaires des traitements, un manque de savoir-dire, de savoir-etre et de reflexivite. Les infirmieres aimeraient cependant avoir des moyens et un meilleur accompagnement pour pallier differentes lacunes afin de mieux aborder la sante sexuelle. Discussion Les infirmieres doivent assumer l’existence de la problematique de la sante sexuelle chez le patient cancereux en corrigeant la perception qu’elles ont de la sexualite, en ameliorant leurs connaissances et leur prise en charge, en abordant de facon precoce la question de la sante sexuelle.
