Fernán Caballero desarrolla en su artículo «Los pobres perros abandonados» (1865) una crítica de la crueldad hacia los perros en España. La autora juega con la perspectiva femenina y maternal que ofrece una revista como El Ángel del Hogar para hablar de la construcción identitaria de España como nación civilizada a través del caso del maltrato animal. Mediante un juego literario que incluye a Antoine de Latour, Miguel de Cervantes y Dulcinea, una descendiente de los perros de El coloquio, aspira a desplegar varios propósitos educativos, en particular acerca del problema moral y consiguiente peligro que constituyen las novelas modernas.
In her article «Los pobres perros abandonados» (1865), Fernán Caballero develops a critique of the cruelty towards dogs in Spain. The author plays with the feminine and maternal perspective offered by a magazine such as El Ángel del Hogar to talk about the identity construction of Spain as a civilised nation through the case of animal abuse. By means of a literary game which includes Antoine de Latour, Miguel de Cervantes and Dulcinea, a descendant of the dogs of El coloquio, she aims to display various educative purposes, and in particular the moral problem and consequent danger constituted by modern novels.
