The aim of the paper is to discuss some initiatives of constitutional changes submitted after Emmanuel Macron came to power. They were presented both by the presidential camp and by the opposition. The current proposals of constitutional changes are accompanied by the long-term crisis of the two parties dominating until 2017: the neo-Gaullists and Socialists. Instead, a strong centre party emerged, and formations of the radical right and left gained in importance. The common feature of the abovementioned initiatives is the emphasis on the democratization of the political life. The implementation of some of them could contribute to undermining the foundations of the current system, including those reaching the layer of the so-called constitutional axiology. On the other hand, it can be argued that the current shape of the party system at the parliamentary level becomes, in connection with the mode of amending the Constitution of the Fifth Republic, a serious barrier to the effective modifications of this legal act.
