The article deals with the story of E. A. Salias “Vanya” (1896), which appears to be a remake of the popular story about Parasha Lupolova (“parasha’s plot”). A hypothesis is put forward that a remake is possible in relation to the plot of any “level” of literature, the main criterion is its popularity; a remake is a stage of the sustainable plot development.
