Rate of internet diffusion among ASEAN countries using bass model

Abstract

Cet article examine le taux de diffusion d'Internet parmi les pays de l'Association des nations de l'Asie du Sud-Est (ASEAN) au cours de la période 2001-2018. Cette étude utilise l'ensemble de données 2001-2018 de l'Union internationale des télécommunications (UIT). Le modèle Bass a été utilisé pour estimer et prévoir les adoptants, les innovateurs et les imitateurs potentiels d'Internet afin de déterminer le taux et les modèles de diffusion et d'adoption d'Internet dans les pays de l'ASEAN. Les résultats ont montré que le taux de diffusion d'Internet parmi les pays de l'ASEAN est bien caractérisé par une courbe en forme de S. Les courbes de diffusion prévues fournissent la preuve que les pays à revenu élevé ont des taux de diffusion plus élevés en comparant les pays à revenu intermédiaire supérieur et les pays à faible revenu de l'ASEAN. Les résultats prévisionnels montrent que le pays avec le point d'inflexion le plus élevé est également le pays qui devient le moins dans le processus de diffusion et d'adoption d'Internet. Les résultats indiquent également que parmi les pays de l'ASEAN, quatre ont atteint leur pic d'adoption avant 2018, deux ont atteint leur point de saturation et un domine continuellement depuis l'introduction d'Internet.

Este documento examina la tasa de difusión de Internet entre las naciones de la Asociación de Naciones del Sudeste Asiático (ASEAN) durante 2001-2018. Este estudio utiliza el conjunto de datos 2001-2018 de la Unión Internacional de Telecomunicaciones (UIT). El modelo Bass se utilizó para estimar y pronosticar los posibles adoptantes, innovadores e imitadores de Internet para determinar la tasa y los patrones de difusión y adopción de Internet en los países de la ASEAN. Los resultados mostraron que la tasa de difusión de Internet entre los países de la ASEAN está bien caracterizada por una curva en forma de S. Las curvas de difusión previstas proporcionan evidencia de que los países de altos ingresos tienen tasas de difusión más altas en comparación con los países de ingresos medios altos y bajos de la ASEAN. This paper examines the rate of Internet diffusion among the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) nations during 2001-2018. This study utilizes the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) 2001-2018 dataset. The bass model was used to estimate and forecast the Internet potential adopters, innovators, and imitators in determining the rate and patterns of internet diffusion and adoption across ASEAN countries. The results showed that the Internet diffusion rate among ASEAN countries is well characterized by an S-shape curve. The predicted diffusion curves provide evidence that high-income countries have higher diffusion rates comparing the upper-middle and lower-income countries in the ASEAN. The forecast results show that the country with the highest inflection point is also the country that becomes the least in the Internet diffusion and adoption process. The results also indicate that among ASEAN countries, four have reached their peak of adoption before 2018, two have reached their saturation point, and one is continuously dominating since the introduction of the Internet.
