Abstract

Após a crítica ao modelo da “decadência da pólis” no estudo das sociedades helenísticas, muitos estudiosos vêm enfatizando a centralidade da cultura agonística para a história das paisagens urbanas e das relações internacionais mediterrânicas. Atenas, uma pólis tão culturalmente prestigiosa quanto militarmente frágil, engajou suas tradições agonísticas na construção de relações evérgetas com monarcas helenísticos. Este texto discute a interação entre cultura agonística, práticas evérgetas e processos de integração a partir das intervenções espaciais em Atenas durante o século II a.C., associadas tanto às Grandes Panateneias quanto ao evergetismo monárquico.
