Data collected from 1987 to 2003 at the Samiondji farm in Benin were used to study the age at first calving (n = 200) and calving intervals (n = 805) in the Lagune cow. The age at first calving was 1373 ± 180 days (4 ± 0.5 years) and calving intervals were 426 ± 85 days (14 ± 2.8 months). The year of calving, season of calving and lactation rank significantly influenced calving intervals, whereas only the birth year had a significant effect on the age at first calving.
