UM CATOLICISMO PLURAL?

Abstract

O recente documento de Santo Domingo, enquanto reflete a rica experiência pastoral do Episcopado Latino-Americano, goza, em seus acertos e até em suas insuficiências, de um valor inquestionável para o trabalho teológico. Vamos tomar como ponto de partida de nossa reflexão uma característica da vida eclesial deste continente, que não passou desapercebida aos bispos e que consiste na incoerência entre fé e vida. Sobre esta encontramos formulações bem claras. "Comprova-se, porém, que a maior parte dos batizados ainda não tomou plena consciência de sua pertença à Igreja. Sentem-se católicos, mas não Igreja" (96). "A partir da situação generalizada de muitos batizados na América Latina, que não deram sua adesão pessoal a Jesus Cristo pela conversão primeira..." (33). Afirmações que beiram o paradoxo: católicos, mas não Igreja; batizados, mas longe de Jesus Cristo! A questão de fundo é deveras séria; já havia sido mencionada por João Paulo II (RM 33) e enfatizada em Pueba (P 783).
