The article is devoted to the historical stylistics of the Russian language – one of the most important and promising directions of historical and linguistic research. Historical stylistics is considered in two ways: as functional stylistics that studies the use of language in records of different genre reference, in texts, characterized by specificity of private functions and communication tasks; as stylistics of resources, studying the process of formation, development and functioning of the stylistic means on different language levels.
