Eques Marcellus’ Career in the Roman Province of Dalmatia

Abstract

The course of the eques Marcellus' career may be followed from his initial military posting as the centurion of the XI legion, to his last municipal function of IIvir iure dicundo with municipal censor competencies, quinquennalis, in the colony of Bovianum. During the Iulio-Claudian period he was the prefect of cohors III Alpinorum in the province of Dalmatia and was appointed the military prefect of the communities of Maeseii and Daesitiates.
