Kultur + Jordbruk

Abstract

With my architecture bachelor-project I decided to pursue a continuation of my previous project, an analysis of urban sprawl as "linear city" in a rural context just outside the borders of Järna in the Södertälje municipality. Along the linear city-project I proposed a cultural center that strives toward strengthening the social space, especially for the youth in Järna which nowadays experience a lack of meeting grounds. This is one of Järna's focal points in the prospect of Järna's future which by that has become my focal point for my bachelor's. With this cultural center, positioned on the border between the urban site and rural contexts, the cityscape is established through an architecture that embraces both agriculture and its surrounding nature. Today Järna is known for its green community which seeks to retain sustainability as a future goal. Idealistic organisations such as 'Under Tallarna' strive toward a more local production of crops together with a local market, an initiative by the people of Järna towards a more sustainable approach to agriculture. With this bachelor's I approach similar means by designing a building which encompasses culture and agriculture, and with it shaping the social space for the cultural community of Järna.
