Abstract

The paper explores a Serbian copy of the Protoevangelium of James dating from 1340/1350 and now kept in the collection of the Dečani Monastery as MS 94. The copy belongs to one of the two variants of Slavonic translations. The solutions sought by Slavic translators show some consistencies as well as some lexical differences, mostly of a synonymic nature. A comparison of the Dečani Monastery copy with another fourteen Serbian copies has revealed some key lexical differences. A critical edition of the text of the Protoevangelium of James based on MS 94 from the Dečani collection is appended.
