Pink is used to make the feminine apparent, whether in figurative or abstract representations in art, in marketing products, or even in the symbols displayed by feminist and queer activists. The use of pink as a sign of the feminine is now so common that pink can be considered the colour of the feminine. By crossing art theory, gender studies and colour studies, I will highlight the shift that has taken place in artistic representations between the feminine symbolism of pink and the identification of the feminine by the colour pink alone.
