У статті визначається роль та місце навчальної дисципліни «Основи психології травми» у професійній підготовці соціальних працівників. Підкреслюється особлива роль соціального працівника в сучасних умовах зростання кількості психотравмуючих ситуацій. На основі аналізу наукової літератури досліджується зміст поняття «психологічна травма», простежується історія виникнення терміну «посттравматичний стресовий розлад» (ПТСР). Визначається специфіка роботи соціального працівника в процесі допомоги психотравмованим людям та обґрунтовується актуальність викладання даного курсу майбутнім соціальним працівникам. Перераховуються методи дослідження запропонованих автором статті завдань. Наводиться інформація про одне з джерел даної дисципліни - тренінговому курсі з психології травми, який провела канадська дослідниця Дарія Шевчук. Пропонується тематичий план курсу «Основи психології травми» та «Лист самоконтролю», використання якого спрямовано на поліпшення навичок саморегуляції майбутніх фахівців. Наведені результати анкетування студентів: визначаються їх очікування від вивчення курсу, найкорисніші та найцікавіші теми, навички, що мають бути сформовані, принципи подання навчального матеріалу, співвідношення практичної та теоретичної частин курсу, а також ставлення студентів до системи оцінювання, що впроваджується автором курсу. Розкрито зміст програми «знакової економії». Наводяться приклад «Листа самоконтролю» та типові висловлювання студентів, які брали участь в анкетуванні. Пропонуються етапи роботи з дітьми та дорослими особами, які зазнали впливу психотравмуючих чинників. Визначається специфіка запропонованої дисципліни, основні вимоги до викладання навчального матеріалу. Окреслюються перспективи подальших пошуків у даному напрямку, які полягають у поглибленні практичної складової даного курсу The article defines the role and place of the discipline "The basics of trauma psychology" in the training of social workers.
