The European University for Customised Education (EUNICE) is a transnational Alliance, founded in 2020 by seven public Universities: University of Mons, University of Vaasa, University of Catania, University of Cantabria, Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France, Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg and Poznan University of Technology, enlarged in 2022 with three new members: Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, University of the Peloponnese and Karlstad University. With over 150 000 students and 15 000 staff, we cover all the major European regions.Our institutions are agile, regularly changing shape to adapt to the needs of our stakeholders and territories. Although we have histories dating, in some cases, back to the 15th century, many of our universities have changed status and mission over the past 50 years: shifting from being specialised to being comprehensive, going through mergers, taking on new missions, developing fields of expertise and deepening our interactions with local and global partners. These different institutional identities and histories give us a deep understanding of the importance of combining perspectives, of focusing on the needs of our regions and of promoting approaches that aim for societal impact as well as more classical research impact. Together we are proud to span the bridge between universities of applied science and research universities.Together, we have a clear focus to transform students’ and teachers’ experience by enabling personalised educational paths at a European scale, develop good practices for knowledge sharing among staff, interdisciplinary research and educational approaches capable of tackling the global challenges of our time, and ensure that research and innovation address the socio-economic challenges that our regional ecosystems face.
