Abstract

. . . . . 3 ,90 Bacaladilla, polipropileno . . . . . . 4 ,40 Cigala, polietileno . . . . . . . 1,63 Cigala, poliamida . . . . . . . . 1 ,68 Faneca, polietileno . . . . . . . 2 ,45 Faneca, polipropileno . . . . . . . 2 ,48 Gallo, polietileno . . . . . . .

[EN] From 1970 to 1975 several experiences were carried out in order to know the selectivity of different species with bottom trawl gears of the type called "baca", in the demersal fishery off Galicia (NW of Spain). A covered cod-end was used in al1 the trawls and they were carried out in depths ranging from 44 to 405 meters. The selection factors for blue-whiting, Norway lobster, megrim and bib with cod-ends of polyethylene. polypropylene and polyamide of different mesh-sizes were: Blue-whiting, polyethylene . . . . . 3,90 Blue-whiting, polypropylene . . . . . 4 ,40 Norway lobster, polyethylene . . . . . 1,63 Norway lobster, polyamide . 1,68 Bib, polyethylene . . . 2,45 Bib, polypropylene . . . 2,48 Megrim, polyethylene . . . . . . . 2 ,31 The possible effects that a mesh-size regulation for this species could produce is analized, reaching the conclusion that a mesh-size of 60 mm should be benefitial for the whole demersal fishery of Galicia.
