Abstract

[EN] In the period from December 1970 to July 1975 a total of 27 trawls have been carried out using a trawling gear called "baca" with a covered cod-end, in order to study the selectivity of hake, horse mackerel, bib and Norway lobster, employing polyamide nets of 51 and 61 mm mesh-size. The selection factors found were the following: Hake . . . . . . . . 51 mm 3,48 Hake . . . . . . . . 61 mm 3,97 Hake (mean) . . . 51-61 mm 3,72 Horse mackerel . . . . . 61 mm 4,25 Bib . . . . . . . . . 61 mm 3,18 Norway lobster . . , . 61 mm 1,48 The authorized mesh-size for "baca" type gear is 40 mm. This means that if the meshsize opening is enlarged to 50 or 60 mm will produce an increasing of the 50% selection size from 14 cm to 17 or 21 cm for hake, assuming a selection factor of 3,5. For the horse mackerel the 50 % selection size was 25 cm and for bib 19,4 cm. The value of the 50% selection size found for Norway lobster was 90 mm. In the last three species cited, the mesh-size opening was 61 mm. [...] Nephrops norvegicus, Merluccius merluccius, Trachurus trachurus, Trisopterus luscus
