Pipefishes use seagrass as hydrodynamic shelter for reducing energy expenditure [Dataset]

Abstract

[EN] Ventilation and MO2: Simultaneous data of ventilation frequency and oxygen consumption for 4 species of pipefish. Measures made in respirometer. The spreadsheet has 15 variables, among them: fish identifier, species, date of the experiment, ventilation rate, fish mass, effective volume of the respirometer, metabolic rate, temperature, fish length. Ventilation and behavior flume: Data of ventilation frequency and behavior of 4 species of pipefish at 6 current velocities in an hidrodynamic flume. Two substrate were tested: sand (S) and eelgrass (E). The spreadsheet has 12 variables: fish identifier, species, substrate (S = sand, E = grass), current velocity (cm/s), frequency of ventilation (min-1), behavior (swimming, that is, swim = 1 or holding the leaves, that is, swim = 0), vertical position (at the top of the channel, that is, top = 1, at the top, that is, top = 0), fish size, fish mass and temperature.
