Abstract

This archive contains data and results produced in a study assessing glacial lakes and related outburst flood hazard and risk on Earth's Third Pole (linked to a journal article: Increasing risk of glacial lake outburst floods from future Third Pole deglaciation, published in Nature Climate Change in 2021). Archive contents The archive contents are origanised into four parts, each stored as a .zip compressed file. 1. Glacial lake data sets Glacial lake data sets mapped for 1990 and 2015, and modelled for the future scenarios (2050 and 2100 under RCP2.6, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5; and an ice-free scenario) on the Third Pole. This directory includes: glacial_lakes_1990_v1.shp glacial_lakes_2015_v1.shp projected_glacial_lakes_2050_rcp26.shp projected_glacial_lakes_2050_rcp45.shp projected_glacial_lakes_2050_rcp85.shp projected_glacial_lakes_2100_rcp26.shp projected_glacial_lakes_2100_rcp45.shp projected_glacial_lakes_2100_rcp85.shp projected_glacial_lakes_ice-free.shp metadata.xlsx 2. Hazard and risk assessments GLOF hazard and risk assessment results for present (2015) and modelled potential glacial lakes (2050 and 2100 under RCP2.6, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5; and an ice-free scenario) on the Third Pole. This directory includes: present_hazard_and_risk_2015.shp projected_hazard_and_risk_2050_rcp26.shp projected_hazard_and_risk_2050_rcp45.shp projected_hazard_and_risk_2050_rcp85.shp projected_hazard_and_risk_2100_rcp26.shp projected_hazard_and_risk_2100_rcp45.shp projected_hazard_and_risk_2100_rcp85.shp projected_hazard_and_risk_ice-free.shp metadata.xlsx 3. Transboundary threats Potentially dangerous glacial lakes with transboundary GLOF threats for present (2015) and modelled potential glacial lakes (ice-free scenario) on the Third Pole. This directory includes: present_potential_transboundary_glacial_lakes_2015.shp projected_potential_transboundary_glacial_lakes_ice-free.shp cross_border_points_present.shp cross_border_points_projected.shp metadata.xlsx 4. Aggregated results Region or hydrobasin/interior zone aggregated results for present and modelled potential glacial lakes and related hazard and risk assessments on the Third Pole. This directory includes: region_aggregated.shp basin_aggregated.shp metadata.xlsx
