Strategic Action Plan with Adaptation Actions and Climate Resilience-Enhancing Forest Management Practices for Protected Areas

Abstract

This booklet is a practical guide to preserving and restoring forest ecosystems and ecological corridors in Eastern and Southeastern Europe. Written for protected area managers in the Carpathian, Balkan, and Dinaric Mountains, it presents 17 flexible, context adaptable management actions to improve habitat connectivity and support healthy populations of large carnivores and their prey. The actions are grounded in habitat restoration and connectivity principles, emphasizing stakeholder collaboration. The booklet aims to enhance biodiversity, strengthen climate resilience, and foster cross border cooperation for durable conservation outcomes.

Keywords

ecological connectivity, climate resilience, large carnivores, protected area management, habitat restoration, Carpathian-Balkan-Dinaric Region
