A pobreza em Portugal: tendências e conjeturas

Abstract

Abstract: This study briefly explores methodological and conceptual issues regarding the concept of poverty, analyzes its evolution in Portugal and reflects upon the phenomena of income poverty and material and social deprivation. The following topics are addressed: a diachronic and comparative analysis of the incidence of poverty and its threshold; the main social categories and territories with the highest incidence of poverty; a simulation of the impact of the minimum wage on the exposure to income poverty; the impacts of social transfers on the risk of poverty rate and the analysis of two forms of unprotection; recent evolution of income poverty and material and social deprivation.
