This report collects the materials presented at the Final Conference of the H2020 SMARTDEST project (ref. 870753), held in Barcelona on 15-16 September 2023. SMARTDEST has tackled the question of how cities that are the hub of tourism and other related temporary population become socially excluding places. The report includes in its first part a short summary report of the project appoach, results and main policy challenges and advances identified by the SMARTDEST reserarch. The second part includes a summary of the presentations and conversations held over two days in the SMARTDEST academic seminar and in the SMARTDEST public event. The annex includes a collection of 14 posters exhibited at the Final Conference, a couplet of posters for each of the seven case study cities where the project engaged in gounded research and carried out CityLabs as participatory fora towards the codesign of policy and social innovation that have potential to tame the disruptive effects of tourism growth on citizens.
An edited version of this report is a Project Deliverable. It has been submitted to the EC on September 30, 2023 and will be undergoing a process of evaluation.
