The Impact of Aerotechnogenic Pollutants on the Pollen Formation in Eldar Pine (Pinus eldarica Medw.)

The Impact of Aerotechnogenic Pollutants on the Pollen Formation in Eldar Pine (Pinus eldarica Medw.)

Abstract

Impact of anthropogenic wastes to the reproductive system of conifers is not less than disorders found in other impact areas. Analysis of wood samples of the Eldar pine (Pinus eldarica Medw.) taken by us in the territory of Ganja Aluminum and Gas plants proves once again that microsporogenesis process is violated under anthropogenic impacts, pollens become of low-quality, and the seeds are sterilized. At the same time, it becomes evident that toxic gases escaped to the atmosphere during burning of landfill located at the edge of Ganja-Baku highway also destruct the reproductive development of conifers. Anatomical analysis that we have obtained and drawings in the microscopic pictures confirm that pollens change their shapes, and either one or both of air bags reduced. As pollens lose their shape on the physiological point of view, they become coarse and lose their volatility ability. Lens-shaped, horseshoe-shaped pollens are detected (in individual cases exceeding 10% in terms of overall changes depending on the environment). The gained results can be used as biotest of adverse environment in accordance with responses of conifers.
