Abstract

Las lagunas facultativas se caracterizan por su bajo costo y gran eficiencia a la hora de reducir la materia orgánica, microorganismos patógenos y nutrientes presentes en las aguas residuales, es por ello que en este estudio se evaluó el método de McGarry y Pescod, el cual se basa en la carga orgánica, presentada como la carga superficial máxima, así mismo se evalúa la eficiencia global de varios sistemas con diferentes caudales y poblaciones, para así determinar la importancia que tiene la temperatura del sector al momento de ejecutarse una laguna facultativa allí, y a su vez, con un valor de una población “estudio” analizar el comportamiento que presenta una laguna facultativa ante temperaturas atípicas o extremas; demostrando así el porqué este método tiene en cuenta que estas lagunas funcionan de una manera más eficiente ante temperaturas templadas (≥17°C). Con esto se evidenció que, ante temperaturas menores a 5 °C, las lagunas facultativas presentan una reducción negativa de materia orgánica, microorganismos patógenos y nutrientes, lo que indica que no se estaría ni reduciendo ni removiendo ningún factor, de lo que se concluye que evidentemente la temperatura es crucial a la hora del diseño y sobre todo del funcionamiento de una laguna facultativa.
