Intake is a Python package for describing, finding and sharing dataset specs, so that you can load them with a minimum of fuss. It has been around for a number of years, and has found a number of uses within the Pangeo community through plugins such as intake-stac, intake-esm and others. In this talk I will go over the challenges of adoption for intake, and why the appearance of the catalog concept in anaconda.cloud has spurred a rethink and large scale rewrite of Intake, with a V2 hopefully coming this year. There is much that is new and much that is discarded! Hoping for honest feedback on the design so far!
