Abstract

O Jardim Botânico da UFRRJ contribui para a conservação da biodiversidade da flora, com destaque para espécies ameaçadas de extinção da Mata Atlântica. No entanto, as árvores dessa área estão infestadas por térmitas. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi identificar as espécies de cupins associadas a árvores do Jardim Botânico da UFRRJ, Seropédica, RJ. Para isso, todas as árvores do Jardim Botânico foram inspecionadas quanto à ocorrência de térmitas. Os térmitas encontrados foram coletados e preservados em álcool 70% para posterior identificação. O material vegetal das árvores inspecionadas também foi coletado para identificação específica. Do total de 226 árvores inspecionadas, 24% (n=54) estavam infestadas por térmitas, sendo identificadas duas espécies nativas da família Termitidae: \textit{Microcerotermes strunckii} Söerensen e \textit{Nasutitermes jaraguae} Holmgren. A espécie mais frequente foi \textit{M. strunckii} (x2 =12,5; g.l.=1; p<0,01), ocorrendo em 63% das árvores infestadas, e \textit{N. jaraguae} ocorreu em 37% das árvores infestadas. \textit{Mangifera indica}L. (Mangueira) (37%) foi a espécie arbórea mais infestada por térmitas (x2=5,47; g.l.=4; p<0,01). Dentre cinco espécies arbóreas mais infestadas por \textit{M.strunckii} (n=35) a exótica \textit{Mangifera indica} (37%), foi também a mais explorada (x2 =49,9; g.l.=4; p<0,001). As cinco espécies de árvores mais exploradas por \textit{N. jaraguae} foram: \textit{Paubrasilia echinata} Lam. (6%) (Pau-brasil), \textit{Sabal palmetto} Walt. (4%) (Palmeto), \textit{Gallesia integrifólia} Spreng. (4%) (Pau-d'alho), \textit{Syzygium cumini} L. (Jamelão) (2%) e \textit{Citrus reticalate} Blanco (Tangerina) (2%) (x2 =1,2; g.l.=4; n.s.). Portanto, as árvores do Jardim Botânico da UFRRJ são infestadas por térmitas arborícolas nativos, com predominância de infestação por \textit{M.strunckii} em espécie arbórea exótica.
