Abstract

The doctoral dissertation presents part of the research in the sphere of reconfigurable robot-based machining systems for machining parts from softer materials of lower and medium accuracy grade. The research involves solving the problem of complexity of robot programming for machining and unsatisfactory machining accuracy due to robot static compliance. The complexity of robot programming for machining is identified as a major limiting factor for wider robot applications in cutting. Setting up the solution of this problem in the focus of research, the author commences from the idea that the existing CAD/CAM systems can be used for robot programming in G-code for multi-axis cutting applications. Formulating the concept of robot-based reconfigurable cell that emulates a 5-axis machine tool and developing the method of generalized kinematic modelling of robot-based machining cells, the author has created a basis for developing the reconfigurable control system with G-code machining programming. The obtained results were used to set up two methods for developing reconfigurable control system: (i) a method based on the application of ready open architecture hardware and software systems, and (ii) a method based on the application of software tools and open architecture hardware technologies, with control algorithms development. The development of experimental reconfigurable control systems according to the set up methods, as well as the experimental verification of the obtained results have confirmed that the existing CAD/CAM systems can be employed for robot programming in G-code for multi-axis cutting applications. The obtained results confirm the possibility of developing reconfigurable robotic machining cells and control systems, which can be reconfigured by the user as well.
