Influência Da Quantidade De Madeira Disponível No Comportamento De Forrageamento De \Textit{Nasutitermes Corniger} (Termitidae)

Abstract

A quantidade de fontes alimentares disponíveis pode modular, em algumas espécies de cupins subterrâneos, o forrageamento de operários sobre o substrato alimentar. Neste trabalho procurou-se verificar se a quantidade de madeira influencia no comportamento de forrageamento do cupim arborícola \textit{Nasutitermes corniger}. Para isso, distintas quantidades de madeira de \textit{Eucalyptus grandis} (Eucalipto) foram colocadas na arena de forrageamento de ninhos de \textit{N}.\textit{corniger} mantidos em laboratório. Assim, foram disponibilizados, simultaneamente, aos cupins blocos de madeira de Eucalipto (5,0 cm x 2,5 cm x 2,0 cm) em quatro quantidades: 1) Um bloco; 2) Dois blocos; 3) Três blocos; e 4) Quatro blocos (n = 20). Nos testes observou-se a ocorrência de recrutamento e quantificou-se o número de cupins recrutados e o número de operários consumindo cada quantidade de madeira. Os testes tiveram duração de uma hora. A ocorrência de recrutamento em massa de operários foi maior para a quantidade de 4 blocos de madeira (13/20) do que para a de 2 blocos (9/20) e de 1 bloco (7/20) (χ2 =7,3; g.l.=3; p<0,01). O número total de cupins recrutados para 1 bloco de madeira (73,6±5,7), 2 blocos (113,9±6,3), 3 blocos (219,7±15,1) e para 4 blocos (243,8±12,9) foi similar (H3,48= 4,6, g.l.=3; n.s.). Do mesmo modo, o número de operários realizando consumo de 1 bloco de madeira (56,8±4,8), 2 blocos (91,3±5,5), 3 blocos (187,6±12,9) e dos 4 blocos (208,8±11,5) foi também similar (H3,48= 4,5, g.l.=3; n.s.). Portanto, estes resultados permitem afirmar que a quantidade de madeira disponível não influencia na exploração dessas por \textit{N}. \textit{corniger}. Apoio: CAPES; UFRRJ.
