Abstract

İkincil kaynaklardan elde edilen bilgilerin tarihsel bağlamda rapor edildiği nitel yöntemde yapılan bu çalışmanın amacı bir kurama ulaşmak, gerçeği bulmak veya genellemeler yapmak değildir. Asıl amaç spor, siyaset ve milliyetçilik arasındaki ilişkiyi mevcut literatüre dayanarak tarihsel olaylar üzerinden daha somut bir şekilde açıklamaktır. Çok eski medeniyetlerde karşımıza çıkan ilkel spor, belli bir dönemden itibaren organize olmuş ve modern spor kimliğine bürünmüştür. Spor; modernite sonrasında anlam, kullanılan araçlar ve çeşitlilik açısından birçok değişikliğe uğramasına rağmen sporun siyasetle ilişkisi bağlamında hem ilkel hem de modern uygulamalarında sürekliliğini ve geçerliliğini korumuştur. Bunlardan en göze çarpanı spor yoluyla milliyetçilik ve ulus devlet inşasıdır. Mevcut literatür ulusların spor ve milliyetçilik arasındaki bağlantının gayet farkında olduklarını, birçok ulusal ve uluslararası amaç için bunu etkili bir biçimde kullanmaya çalıştıklarını açıkça yansıtmaktadır.
