A toxicidade da gasolina na aplicação tópica para o tratamento de mastite em bovinos leiteiros

Abstract

A produção de leite e derivados é um setor de grande importância econômica e social para o Brasil1. O Nordeste possui 20% dos animais ordenhados no Brasil, participando com 3,89 bilhões de litros de leite ao ano, e mesmo com toda a representatividade, o Nordeste apresenta enormes dificuldades técnico-administrativas, com pouca tecnologia aplicada à produção, aliada à defasada mão- de-obra especializada e administração precária, os baixos indicativos produtivos refletem a realidade encontrada nas regiões. No Brasil, estima-se, em função da alta prevalência de mastite nos rebanhos, perda de produção entre 12% e 15%, o que significa cerca de 3 bilhões de litros de leite/ano2. A mastite bovina tem negativa repercussão no que se refere à qualidade do leite e, dessa forma, reduz o rendimento dos derivados lácteos, além de diminuir seu tempo de prateleira, o que pode tornar o produto final inadequado ao consumo e, consequentemente, gerar problemas de saúde pública3. Em entrevista, o proprietário da fazenda afirmou utilizar gasolina nos tetos dos bovinos acometidos por mastite por entender que ocorre melhora da enfermidade, apesar de reconhecer não ter orientação médica veterinária para isso. Dentre os diversos componentes da gasolina comum, deve-se frisar o hexano, o benzeno e o tolueno, todos hidrocarbonetos, com potencial de toxicidade, atingindo diversos sistemas do organismo, como o sistema nervoso, respiratório e tegumentar, apresentando-se como uma problemática real na fazenda objeto de estudo do presente trabalho.
