LEISHMANIOSE VISCERAL CANINA

Abstract

A leishmaniose visceral canina é uma doença transmitida por um parasita do gênero Leishmania, afetando principalmente cães e humanos em várias regiões tropicais e subtropicais. Neste estudo de caso clínico, relatamos um animal canino de 8 anos da raça Rottweiler, com peso de 40 kg, residente no mesmo município da Clínica Veterinária Pelos e Penas, apresentando sinais clínicos sugestivos de leishmaniose visceral. O cão foi admitido com perda de peso progressiva, fraqueza, apatia, linfadenopatia e alopecia. Um exame clínico detalhado revelou lesões cutâneas ulcerativas, crescimento anormal das unhas e sintomas sistêmicos, como hepatoesplenomegalia. Foi realizada a sorologia para leishmaniose, utilizando o teste de ELISA, e o resultado foi positivo. O tratamento foi iniciado com a combinação de antimoniais pentavalentes e allopurinol. Além disso, medidas de controle de vetores foram adotadas, incluindo o uso de coleira repelente e ambiente protegido. A terapia medicamentosa foi monitorada regularmente e ajustada conforme necessário, de acordo com a resposta clínica e laboratorial. Ao longo do tratamento, observou-se uma melhora gradual dos sinais clínicos e dos parâmetros laboratoriais. O cão respondeu positivamente à terapia, apresentando redução da carga parasitária e resolução dos sintomas clínicos. No entanto, é importante destacar que a leishmaniose visceral canina é uma doença crônica e, portanto, medidas de controle e acompanhamento a longo prazo são essenciais.
