Abstract

Ein Beitrag zur Digital History 2023: Digitale Methoden in der geschichtswissenschaftlichen Praxis: Fachliche Transformationen und ihre epistemologischen Konsequenzen, Berlin, 23.-26.5.2023. Abstract: In diesem Beitrag werden die Aufbereitung und Analyse einer vormodernen Anzeigenzeitung, des Basler „Avisblatts“ (1729–1844), und die während des Prozesses aufgetauchten Herausforderungen, bisher erzielte Ergebnisse und zukünftige Nutzungs- und Forschungsperspektiven aufgezeigt. Für die Beantwortung wirtschafts-, konsum- und kulturhistorischer Fragestellungen wurden die knapp 1 Million Kleinanzeigen ins Zentrum der Analysen gerückt, wobei ein im Projekt entwickeltes R-Package einer detaillierteren Klassifizierung des Datensatzes diente. Der frei verfügbare Datenbestand lässt sich mithilfe des Packages immer weiter anreichern und so für neue Forschungsansätze nutzbar machen. Auch ließe sich das Package für andere Anzeigenblätter nutzen und verspricht so, nicht nur eine lokale serielle Quelle zu erschließen, sondern vergleichende Analysen unterschiedlicher Intelligenzzeitungen zu ermöglichen und somit den Blick über Ortsgrenzen und konsum- und wirtschaftsgeschichtliche Fragestellungen hinaus zu weiten.
