Focusing on single tasks to implement Open Science (OS) principles could return immediate and successful results. However, in case of lack of coordination at institutional level, there is a risk of achieving temporary and isolated results. Indeed, the UNESCO recommendation on OS stresses the importance of establishing interconnections between areas and single issues as just different realizations of the same principles. At the University of Trento (UniTrento), Italy there is an ongoing attempt to combine bottom-up and top-down approaches. Individual efforts at departmental level, got the spotlight on dedicated angles forming the general framework. This was the case of some diamond open access scientific journals published by UniTrento, but hosted on different websites. They have been successful in attracting international interest, but struggled to find adequate resources and trained support to maintain the websites (by means of different versions of the Open Journal System (OJS) software). Furthermore, the Center for Mind / Brain Sciences and Faculty of Law departments set up open virtual spaces where educational and scientific initiatives on OS issues take place, to train new generations of researchers. Results obtained are remarkable, but mainly limited to the members of the respective departments. As implementation of its 2022-2027 Strategic Plan, UniTrento established the OS Committee to redirect such interests towards common goals. Results achieved so far include: (1) the official OS policy of UniTrento that illustrates general principles - aligned with the UNESCO recommendation and the Italian National Plan on OS - and settles a common framework for all departments; (2) the launch of the TESeO platform, based on the latest OJS version, hosting all scientific journals published by UniTrento; (3) the participation of Trento as an official member of the Italian Association on Open Science (AISA), the Italian Computing and Data Infrastructure (ICDI) and the Italian Reproducibility Network (ITRN).
