In this study, the definition of power and its sources will be discussed. It will be argued that power is not only exercised by official authorities and state institutions, but also in other centers of power such as civil society, the media and the private sector. In addition, the control mechanisms of the government, especially the effect of democratic control mechanisms such as the judiciary, parliamentary and press freedom will also be discussed. However, this study will focus on the concept of social control. Social control is a natural counter-power of power and refers to the control activities of the society against the power, either individually or organized. Within the framework of this study, the history, forms and mechanisms of social control will be discussed and the effects of non-governmental organizations, media and citizens on power will be investigated. In addition, the interaction between power and social control and its results will be evaluated. In this context, it will focus on the effects of social control on power, the effectiveness of control mechanisms, and how the power acts in the absence of social control. In general, this study was written in order to better understand the relationship between power and social control, to discuss the control mechanisms necessary for a democratic society, and to offer suggestions for strengthening social control mechanisms.
