The following article examines the major perspectives of development studies on the basis of the available literature reviews to conceptualize the essential ideas of development. The following shows that there is no central idea of the term development. It is a multifaceted and relative term that shifts its ideas across various times and spaces; actors; and agencies of development. The article also tried to show the criticisms that have been faced by different perspectives on different discourses of development due to their inherent problems.
