The project team at DataCite collaborated with Crossref and ORCID to develop this Guide for Funders, harmonizing information available across the open scholarly infrastructure organizations into a set of recommendations. The guide aims to introduce the role of persistent identifiers and metadata in facilitating open and FAIR research and walk the reader through ways to actively engage in implementing PIDs and metadata workflows, by committing resources, enacting congruent policies and guidelines, and providing support around grant application, management, and reporting. These workflows will provide a concrete basis for FAIR practices and output tracking, benefiting both funders and the broader research community.
